They landed a role at the #1 professional services firm in the world, without a formal interview.
By the time HR called, the offer was already in motion.
This is what happens when conversations create the opportunity.
What I saw a professional do that impressed me…
They landed a role from the #1 professional services firm without an interview.
I’m always coaching towards these types of moments, can people leverage their expertise to find the ideal moment for when they are the right candidate for the role.
In most cases, this role might even be created. So… where do you start?
This person started with someone they knew. An old colleague that had left their firm to go join a massive consulting giant.
What started as an informational chat turned into a… “what are you up to?”
Which then led to an introduction.
Which then led to another introduction.
AND one more after that until that were speaking with the project leader.
When they were finally introduced to HR, the team said you had already spoken with the leader - no need for additional interviews, the offer is on it’s way.
Is it always this easy? No. Not at all.
why share it? Because it still exists.
Platforms don’t hire you, people do.
ps) they ended up negotiating the offer and received an upgrade in level and 13k in compensation.
Quick note:
Bitterness towards the job search or the interview process shows up in every interaction you have with someone you believe to be OUTSIDE of the process. Your friends, parents, and old colleagues see the frustration.
This isn’t a call to wear a mask or jump for joy 24/7, but a push to see how you can lean on the people around you with a SPECIFIC ask.
Not only sharing frustration and blame.
Two roles I’d move fast on:
Company: Oracle NetSuite
Role: NetSuite Project Manager - ERP
Why move fast?
Because someone on their team posted about the role just yesterday and I have soft spot for ERP implementations, if you can manage this work you’ll have many many opportunities in the future. Fortune 100 is doing these every 5-10 years, or at least some type of service on their ERP!
Company: NYC Based Media Company
Role: In-House Content Creator
Why move fast?
The poster is telling you to contact them. If you’re complaining about not seeing entry-level roles, here is one :)
One question for the job search:
I believe the advice… “if you aren’t doing it in the hundreds, then you can’t say you tried” is pretty key for the job search, except when it comes to applications.
What are you doing in the hundreds outside of applications?
Before you leave…
Type of week you dream of early on in this business. 3 offers over the last week for candidates and ~500k in combined compensation for these professionals.
I’m wholeheartedly focused on serving my 1:1 clients at the highest level. This week we have 5 interviews across 11 professionals, if you want to dive into the work… respond directly here. Taking on ONE more professional for this month.
