You’re going to run into interviewers who don’t know how to run interviews. What matters is whether you shrink… or whether you professionally take control of the room.

What I saw a professional do that impressed me…

Interviewing in this market can be brutal. You don’t always know if they’re ready to hire, what type of attitude they’ll bring to the interview, or if it’s going to be ONE of your most energetic hiring conversations ever.

Over the last 3 weeks, 4 folks have accepted offers that I’m working with.

This week a professional blew me away with how they handled objections in an interview. A top-tier tech company (a household name 😉) interviewed someone in our program with 15+ experience under their belt for an extremely senior role.

Throughout the interview, the interviewer (who showed up with an additional interviewer) continued to correct the candidate over the use of “I” and “We” when explaining their answers to behavioral questions around the role.

This happened 7 times…

Until finally the candidate paused the interview and clarified when they would be using those words giving further background to the situations when it made sense.

Talk about awkward. But sometimes you need to stand tall and own your work.

You are going to run into folks who don’t know how to professionally run in interview, this will happen and it’s best to accept it + own your story.

I’m proud of this person and I would recommend that company/interviewing team to another one of my clients, unfortunately.

Quick note:

Don’t blame AI for you not getting selected in screening. Blame yourself for all the time and energy you’re giving it. I can almost guarantee that’s not the reason.

Two roles I’d move fast on:

Company: Robinhood

Role: Corporate Finance Manager

Why move fast?

The leader for the role is asking you to come join them, there is a person behind the hiring process. Now, do you have the qualifications?

Company: OpenAI

Role: Director, Head of Technology Partnerships

Why move fast?

You’ll be working hard and touching top tier brands + they are posting about it :)

One question for the job search:

Who do I need to circle back with? Stop letting great conversations die. There are people who are waiting to hear from you and are genuinely impressed by you, go find them fast.

Before you leave…

4 offers over the last 3 week for candidates, with 4 interviews this week across 12 folks.

If you’re interested in working together, respond here directly.
