The "Top 5 US Roles" hiring right now per ChatGPT

We need to use what we have more, here's a quick filter I'm using to land conversations with people in the role I want.

Welcome to #PrescribedByDx

Below is how my brain thinks when I reach job boards. I pulled the 5 top roles hiring in the U.S. and showed you the filter I'm using to find people close to me in the role I want.

PS: I also included a role from each area that caught my eye.

Let’s check it out 👇🏼

TL;DR

  • LinkedIn has a ton of awesome tools, use them.

  • 1 friend who asks tough questions is worth 10 “good” friends.

  • You’re 1 conversation away from playing the, “it’s who you know” game.

An area you are already doing well

Acceptance of the "layup role". I fell in love with these early on, and people are realizing they need them because of a hard truth.

You aren't ready for your dream role. You aren't, and few people will look you in the face to tell you.

But, you are ready for the "layup role," and after 1-2 years, head down there—you'll be able to paint a new picture.

A picture that says here is my business case, and this is why you should invest in me.

One piece of your search to tweak

Find a hard question to ask often. If you don't, you'll risk running in circles and surrounding yourself with people who want you to run in a circle.

Try answering this on a piece of paper…

Where have I been wrong and am not willing to admit it in my career?

Let’s keep it simple with ChatGPT. “What are the top 5 roles hiring right now in the US?”

  • Software Engineers

  • Nursing Assistants

  • Financial Analysts

  • Cybersecurity Analysts

  • Truck Drivers

And, I thought this was pretty basic. This doesn’t take me anywhere, so I asked for a few specific examples for each of the 5 roles above:

  1. Software Engineers

  2. Nursing Assistants

  3. Financial Analysts

  4. Cybersecurity Analysts

  5. Truck Drivers

I still don’t love this. You can take on these roles and start looking on various job boards (this is what your competition is doing as well). Here’s the question I’d ask myself instead:

If I wanted a role in any of the above, whom would I start a conversation with?

Use what you have to start

“13 results"—this is where I want to be. For the first week while job searching, spend time with the people who are in the roles you want. I would then apply further criteria as you start to land conversations. There's power in starting wide so you don’t limit the trajectory of where these chats could take you!

The goal is exposure, and I'm sure you'll balance it with applications. It's hard to forget what you learned for so many years (apply, apply, apply, etc.)

So, instead of sending a barrage of applications to the top 5 roles in the U.S.

Go for a conversation with these people first, I can guarantee what you hear will surprise you.

Ps… I gave you a link to a role within each of the professions that I found cool.

Bonus: “Use what you have to start"—you don’t need brand new relationships just yet.

I hope this advice helps you solve the challenge of breaking into your target role. If you’re starting your search or have been applying to jobs for a while and struggling, consider sitting down and asking the questions above.
