10 things that aren’t job searching…
Applying to 7 jobs per day
Scrolling on job boards or LinkedIn for 2+ hours
Explaining a role to your friend you may be good for
Asking for feedback from 10+ people on your resume
Scheduling a conversation to ask, “What’s the culture like?”
Counting yourself out every single requirement on the JD
Complaining about how the market isn’t “hot” right now
Asking for advice from someone who isn’t in your field
Saying “yes” to activities outside of job searching
Talking about applying for a role tomorrow
I make this not to discourage you, but to give you the feedback that most are avoiding giving you. Chances are you have fallen into a few of these activities over the last month. That’s perfectly fine.
We’ve been taught to job search one way the majority of our lives. The game has changed and you still have to play in it! And, it’s going to continue to change every single day.
Below are a few questions I’d ask to pull yourself out of activities that aren’t moving the needle.
Questions I'd ask to measure up my true progress…
What was the last piece of feedback I got and how did I implement it?
When was the last time I spoke to someone in the role I wanted?
When did I last make it to the 3rd round of an interview?
How often have I revisited my target role list?

Finally settled into my apartment here in Jakarta and below is one of my favorite perks of this city… certain areas in Jakarta have “car-free days” (6 - 10 AM) which are beautiful. It makes marathon training a bit easier 😉
The US should follow suit with this. Bali Marathon t-minus 17 days!

TL;DR
Be willing to say what you’re doing doesn’t work
You can double down on whatever is “fun” right now
It’s okay to be relentless in whatever you want to do
If you follow the steps to kick off your transformation, I’d love to hear about what you are working through. Send me an email and tell me how it went.
