"I feel like these are very ambitious. I should have kept some that are more achievable."
That's what he said to me when we pulled up his target company list.
He's a product designer. Five to seven years of experience required at most of the roles he was looking at. Consumer product background preferred. He had neither on paper.
I looked at him and said, "I'd rather you start here."
Because here's the question I keep coming back to with every person I work with:
Can you hang with them?
Not "do you check every box." Not "does your resume match the job description." Can you sit in the room with the people doing that work, understand the problems they're solving, and hold your own?
Chances are you can. You've just never given yourself permission to believe it or had someone in your corner who looked at your list and said, "Go try."
I have a separate client navigating a $200k+ offer right now. You know what got them there? Months of conversations with people ahead of them. And every single one of those people looked back and said, "It's time. Go do this."
The list he built this week scared him a little.
That's exactly why we kept it.
One question for your career this week:
Who's one person ahead of you that you've been too intimidated to reach out to?
Before you leave…
71 conversations. 8 applications. $560k in offers. I just looked back on three clients who I'm working with right now and I'm blown away by the work that they did throughout the process. I pull up their board almost each time I start with folks to show them that, hey, this is where we're headed.

This week's newsletter is a call out to AI Apply below in here. Here's my honest take on these services:
I've never used them until this past week, and that's because a company came to me that ran their own AI application and told me I could test it out with my clients for free. they also definitely impressed me with their tool (recordings, filtering, access to roles, etc.)
Some of my current clients are going through the test, and I want to check it out. I like this right now because it gives my clients more time to spend time messaging people versus filling out endless applications, which is always the goal of my program overall. I'll report back on the findings. I'm not completely sold yet 🤝
