An area you are already doing well…

Trusting your voice. LinkedIn is awesome at selling you the next best template to unlock 100k or a new role tomorrow.

In reality, the template starts to take away from your voice. People want to know the human side of you, not the best script out there.

  • Be specific in why you’re reaching out to the person

  • Keep it as light as possible

  • Establish common ground

  • Have fun with it and add energy!

Don’t overthink your outreach, send the message and evaluate what works.

One piece of a job search strategy to tweak…

The focus of what you’re after. Changing the goalposts on yourself as you move through the search makes it nearly impossible for you to win, the market and competition already search hard enough.

Avoid making the search more difficult by showing up for what you originally said you wanted to do. If it needs to change, head to the drawing board and identify why.

A few questions I’m asking if I need to go back to the drawing board:

  • Is this a change that I want?

  • What indicator is pushing me towards this?

  • How much flexibility do I have to stick to my original goal?

  • Who must I spend more time with to help me hit the goal?

  • What information could I be missing to have an accurate goalpost?

Note: This is where you need to ask for feedback and accept the hard truth from people who have lived out what you want to do or have been successful.

An area where you could have fun this week…

Figure out where you dominate. Spend time with 3-5 people who know you well professionally:

  • Where do they think you shine the brightest?

  • What project have you been at your best in their eyes?

  • Which relationships do you have that they deem valuable?

  • How have you navigated situations that surprised them?

Take notes, this will feed into your performance conversations and selling your business case.

Question to reflect on…

“What are you having fun doing right now?”

TL;DR

  • If you “have it”, trust it.

  • Send the message, and check the results later.

  • It’s nearly impossible to hit a moving goalpost.

  • Spend time figuring out where you’re a solid professional.

4. #PrescribedByDx

This portion of the newsletter may fulfill a few different needs for the reader; a change in the marketplace, a lie you’ve been told, or a thought process you may have not considered.

This week, I looked at the hot job market cities and major companies. In my eyes, this listing was a bit swayed by the low cost of living in these respective cities but it’s still worth it to be aware of the shift!

  1. Oklahoma City, OK

    1. State of Oklahoma - 37,600 Employees

    2. Tinker Air Force Base - 26,000 Employees

    3. Oklahoma State University - Stillwater - 13,940 Employees

  2. Cape Coral, FL

    1. No concrete data that I felt confident reporting on - there seems to be a boom as the city website held weak employment numbers in 2019!

  3. Jacksonville, FL

    1. Duval County Public Schools - 13,100 Employees

    2. Baptist Health - 12,000 Employees

    3. Mayo Clinic - 8,000 Employees

    4. Bank of America - 8,000 Employees

  4. Orlando, FL

    1. Walt Disney Resort - 58,748 Employees

    2. Advent Health - 37,000 Employees

    3. Universal Orlando - 21, 143 Employees

    4. Orlando Health - 19,657 Employees
