How 1 simple message can reignite your existing network (and start real conversations)
There are people out there who would love to hear from us, below is an approach to start back up those conversations:
Hey [contact name]!
I was thinking about [recent conversation topic/shared experience] and thought i’d check in. How’s everything going with [current project/goal they’re working on]?
I’m currently [your current focus/update/looking to pivot], and I’d love to catch up and hear more about the work that you are doing.
Do you have time over the next 3 weeks to catch up?
- [Your name]
Personalize, personalize and personalize more. You know these people better than I do and most importantly, don’t burn through 50 connections with the same message!
Questions for Deep Conversations
“You’ve been in [role] for X and have sat in the [industry focus] during that time, what’s your focus for the next 180 days? What do you hope the team realizes?”
This is your market research. What is the wave right now? Study this response from a leader - a good moment to see where their head is!
“What was the last project that expressed your brand the most? How have you found more time to do that work?”
Can you ask a follow-up question here after their answer? We forgot to show that we’re listening to their responses by asking follow-ups on top of an already great question.
As always, the goal is to ask questions they aren’t getting at home or from their closest friends. This is something that other’s aren’t doing and this is where we need to operate if we want the conversation to go deep fast.

This quote hit home with me recently.
"It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so" - Mark Twain
I’ve wasted a ton of time on certain beliefs - whether that’s my relationships or around the business building. The only saving grace has been the people willing to pour into with their knowledge.
But, they didn’t pour into me for no reason. I asked, I showed them I cared, and that I had already invested time into trying to figure out these beliefs.
Bonus: my favorite answer to a critical moment (at times) - “You’re right”
TL;DR
Don’t burn through 50 connections with the same message
Ask a follow-up question to their answer
Snuff out your strongest beliefs
