Forget about a "better" job search
LinkedIn loves to throw you a new silver bullet strategy; don't run there; run here...
A few things I’ve noticed from the job seekers I’m spending time with and why I believe they're winning…
Forget about a fancy strategy; keep it simple👇🏼
Show up, Stay Ahead
Mastering Your Last Impression
What happens when you follow up every day? This senior leader’s story reveals the truth.
I wish more people valued the every single-day note.
“Hey, I’m wholeheartedly focused on X; here’s what I’ve found…”
I’m working with a senior leader right now. The biggest secret in their job search isn’t a fancy tool or strategy, but their ability to follow up with me daily and share what has been done.
Most coaches would:
Get annoyed someone is reaching out that much.
Not take the time to listen to or read their messages.
If you’ve worked with someone like that, I’m sorry. You probably didn’t realize you were going to get plugged into a guide or course from the start.
But there’s something crucial to remember: Before you invest in a third party, spend time with them and ask tough questions.
Also, I picked up on another part of their day…
They’ve never stopped networking.
Through the holidays, rejections, weird interactions, and bad interviews, they showed up every single day. They kept trying to land a referral or uncover new information.
It’s a beautiful part of their work.
What has come of it?
This week, they were interviewing, and the recruiter shared the hiring manager’s name. It clicked. Months ago, this leader had already spent time networking with that manager. Another interview was scheduled in less than 24 hours.
Don’t stop networking. Even when people stink.
Keep holding conversations 🤞🏼
Mastering Your Last Impression
The end of the interview is where I believe people set themselves apart. Few people take the time to ask questions that they care about or need to say “yes” to the role.
Here’s a few to stand out:
When someone excels in this role, how does it impact the team or company?
When did you give a team member room to chase a project they enjoyed?
What was the last win your team celebrated, and how?
Don’t ever end the interview with, “No questions here, I’m all good!”
A bad taste for both parties.

Simple, friendly reminder to check the companies you are interviewing with. I had an awesome job seeker close to me experience a terrible fake job posting scam that took time, energy, and faith away from their process.
If it feels wrong, have someone check it out!
TL;DR
Show up every single day.
Great questions seal the deal
Trust your gut in the interview
Before you leave…

Have an awesome day ✌🏼
